When it comes to financial aid, accredited beauty schools have the resources to take that weight off your shoulders so you can afford to enroll in a beauty school program. Whether you have an interest in pursuing an education in cosmetology, barbering, or esthetics, there are so many different options out there that can help you to pay for your education. From scholarships to financial aid and grants, these are some ways to prevent you from breaking the bank. Read our guide to learn more about what you can do to start your application process.

Paying for Beauty School: Your Financial Aid Options

How Much Is Beauty School?

Before considering your financial options, it’s best to determine which program and school you want to enroll in. The cost varies depending on where you decide to start your education. If you decide to enroll into a cosmetology program, the national average typically costs $10,000. We highly recommend doing your research and getting in contact with a beauty school to find out what the total cost of your education could look like.

Apply for Federal Financial Aid

When starting your beauty school’s enrollment process, one of the most important steps to take is to apply for your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Your FAFSA® and tax return information determines whether or not you qualify for financial aid options like Federal Grant money, Parent PLUS Loans, and more. The Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy financial aid staff is here to guide you through the process and you can contact us or book an appointment with our admissions team at any time to assist you with your application.

Federal Grants

Grants are part of the financial aid package. You are given this money and not expected to pay it back. The amount you receive depends on your financial needs. The Federal Pell Grant Program awards assistance only based on your needs and not based on your grades. There are other grant options to consider and resources you may want to look into depending on your qualifications.

Scholarships

Grants are more based on financial needs, while scholarships are based on merit and how you apply yourself academically. There are a wide variety of scholarships to look into that you may qualify for. Here are a few beauty school scholarships:

Professional Beauty Association

If you are looking to advance your beauty career and get the financial support you need to pursue an education, then the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) is a great place to look into. Check out what scholarships may be available to you!

The Joe Francis Haircare Scholarship Foundation

The Joe Francis Haircare Scholarship Foundation is only offered to those who are currently applying for a barber or cosmetology program. Those who are pursuing an esthetician or nail tech program, do not qualify for this scholarship. Be sure to apply between January 1 and June 1 if you are interested in fall tuition. The application requires you to answer two essay questions and provide two letters of recommendation.

American Association of Cosmetology Schools

The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) offers a variety of scholarships that you can apply for as a cosmetology student. If you are ready to get the help you need to start your journey then here are a few other scholarships options:

  • Six Inch Shears Scholarship
  • Milady Rise Scholarship
  • Keller Cosmetology Scholarship
  • Rosy Salon Software Cosmetology Scholarship
  • Great Clips Great Scholarship Program
  • Hair Freedom For All Fun Scholarship
  • And More!

The more scholarships you apply for, the more likely you are to receive financial support and help with your education goals.

Veteran Options

At Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy, we support our Veterans and accept your Post 9/11 GI Bill to support you through your education. The GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.

Student Loans

Federal loans should be your last resort if you do not qualify for any grants or scholarships. Loans are borrowed money that can help you pay for school, but must be repaid back. You have the option to apply for both subsidized and unsubsidized loans.

Parent PLUS Loans

For parents who have qualifying credit, they can borrow money from the government to pay for their dependent child’s tuition. If you have a parent who qualifies, then we recommend considering this loan as an option.
