Do you rush to try the newest serum or toner whenever you get the chance? Is your skincare routine an essential part of your day/night even if you go to bed at 1 AM? If you answered yes to either, chances are you’re a skincare fanatic.

Want to know how long it actually takes to become an esthetician? Scroll down to “How Long Does It Take to Become an Esthetician in Florida?”

Each state has different requirements for becoming a licensed esthetician. The state of Florida requires individuals interested in a skincare profession to find a school approved by the state (preferably one that is accredited so you can apply for financial aid*), complete a certain amount of required training hours, and lastly, apply for your license.

At Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy, our skincare program can help you turn that passion into an exciting career. We offer the program at both our Lakeland and Tampa campuses, so you can gain the skills you need to become a licensed esthetician in Florida at whichever location is most convenient.

But before you get that far, let’s start with some basics!

What Do Estheticians Do?

An esthetician is a professional who specializes in the beautification of the skin. They can perform cosmetic skin treatments like facials, chemical peels, body treatments, and hair removal. If you’re someone who loves helping others feel great, pursuing a future in esthetics can be a great choice.

Skincare has been trending for a while now and self-care feels more important than ever. People of all ages are investing in home skin care products, as well as spa treatments. These opportunities give skincare specialists the ability to give advice on at-home routines and provide skin services to people who want healthy, beautiful skin.

Now that we know what an esthetician does, let’s get into the requirements for becoming an esthetician in Florida!

Enroll In An Esthetician Program

The first step to becoming an esthetician is to enroll in an esthetician program! The skincare program at our school is designed to prepare you to sit for the state board exam, obtain licensure, and begin a career in the beauty industry.

Here is just some of what our skin care curriculum covers:

  • The Skin and Its Functions
  • Disorders of Skin; Special Esthetic Procedures
  • Chemistry for the Facial Student
  • Facial Massage and Mask Therapy
  • Facial Treatments With and Without Machines
  • Waxing, Tweezing, and Hair Removal
  • Makeup Techniques
  • And more!

How Long Does It Take to Become an Esthetician in Florida?

In the state of Florida, you must complete 260 clock hours for a state license. At Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy, we require 300 clock hours to help graduates prepare for their careers. Our skincare program can be completed in as little as 9-15 weeks depending on which schedule you choose.

After completing the program, you’re then eligible to apply for your official esthetician certificate.

Apply For Your License

In some states, it’s required to take an exam before you get your license. In Florida, an exam isn’t required. So now, the next step is to apply for your license! You can apply here. You’ll need to provide proof of education as well as pay a licensing fee to apply!

Start Your Career

You may think of estheticians simply as people who work in spas. While that’s a popular path, there are many other career options for licensed estheticians!

  • Day Spa or Hotel Spa Esthetician
  • Freelance/Personal Esthetician
  • Spa Manager or Owner
  • Esthetics Instructor
  • Brow and Lash Specialist
  • Skincare Blogger/Influencer
  • Medical Esthetician
  • Makeup Artist
