How to Become a Massage Therapist in Florida

In order to become a licensed massage therapist in Florida, you must be at least 18 years old. You need to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Some schools, such as Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy, do offer a career pathways program where you don’t have to have your high school diploma (inquire directly with the school).

In addition, you must:

  • Complete 500 hours of coursework at a state-approved school, such as Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy. Our program requires you to complete 600 hours of coursework, which prepares you better for a career in this field. Generally, students complete this program in 6-7 months. Our curriculum focuses on teaching you value-driven massage skills, as well as develops the analytical skills you will need to provide each client with personalized service that addresses their unique circumstances.
  • Pass a state licensing exam that allows you to practice in Florida. There are four exams available to choose from: the National Exam for State Licensure, Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination, National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage.
  • Complete a 10-hour continuing education course on Florida Laws and Rules.
