Dream Big – Achieve Success

Dream Big - Beauty Industry

When you decide to pursue a career within the beauty industry, don’t be afraid to dream big. Like you, the top stylists and makeup artists in the world started out as newbie beauty school students. Before they conquered the industry, they all had the same question: How badly do I want to achieve my dreams?

Goal Setting

Goal setting isn’t just about daydreaming of your ideal career. Goal setting helps you develop a path to achieve your dream job. Each beauty school graduate may have a different picture of his or her future. For instance, you may dream of one day owning your own salon or barbershop. Another dream could be of opening a spa that uses only all natural and organic products. Stylists may have goals to attract celebrity clientele and work on movie and television sets. Maybe you see yourself traveling the world as a platform artist. Once you know what your goal is, you can make a step-by-step plan on how to get where you want to be.

Achieving the “Impossible”

Many students don’t set goals early on because they are fearful over their futures. However, research has proven that prospective employees with clearly defined goals are 10 times more likely to succeed. Start off by researching your dream career and find out how individuals who are currently working in the field were able to break into the profession. Talk to career specialists as well at your beauty school to get advice on what you need to do to achieve your dream job. Career specialists can advise on job placements and also help you build your network.

Throughout the process, write down goals and even print out images to help you visualize the end result. For instance, if you have a dream of being the go-to hair stylist for brides, spend time cutting out images of inspired bridal hair designs and write down mantras like “I am the best bridal hair stylist in all of Florida.”

Dreams may change as your journey as a stylist continues on. Although you may have started out dreaming of owning your own salon, a new opportunity may open up that turns out to be a better fit. The future is yours—take it.

Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy has locations throughout Florida and offers the training you need to achieve your dreams within the beauty industry. Contact us today for more information.

Halloween Inspiration and A Beauty Career Choice

Beauty Career Choice

Do you wait all year to flip your calendar to October so that you can begin planning your Halloween costume? If you are the type of person who goes all-out for Halloween, including a homemade costume, expert makeup and perfect hair, then a career in beauty may be the best choice for you.

Why Should You Consider a Beauty Career Choice?

  • You will get to make people look and feel their best. For many people, Halloween is an opportunity to pretend to be someone that they are not — and maybe to pretend to be someone they would like to be. When you begin a career in cosmetology, you can allow people to feel great about who they are each day.
  • You get to help your clients define themselves and their look. Rather than trying to become someone else or fit in with the latest trends, you can use your cosmetology skills to help define your clients and give them confidence. Together, you can create a look that uniquely suits them.
  • You get to play dress up every day. Halloween only comes once a year, but when you work as a cosmetologist you can concoct unique and creative styles along with your clients on a daily basis.

Hair and Makeup Tips for Halloween

  • Use a primer on your face before applying any makeup. Not only will this help set the makeup in place, but it will protect your skin from the extra makeup that is applied for Halloween night.
  • Have fun with your Halloween hair. There’s plenty of paint and glitter available to perfect the look that will complement your costume. Apply generously, but know that it should be taken out as quickly as possible after your celebrations are complete. Rinsing with shampoo and using a significant amount of conditioner can help remove extra product from your hair.
  • Know that the creepiest Halloween looks need to be applied in layers. There should be a makeup base, a layer for outlining and a layer for details.

Whether you prefer to create ghoulish costumes for each Halloween, or you like to pretend you are as glamorous as a Hollywood A-lister, you will likely love a career in beauty. Working as a makeup artist or hair stylist will allow you to transform your clients every day of the year. For more information, contact Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy today.

The Power of Giving Back

The Power of Giving Back

The Power of Giving Back

Working in the beauty industry, you play an important role in the community. Not only do you provide your clients with the services that they want, but you also give them an opportunity to connect with someone and communicate with them. Many times, you are not just a hairstylist or a barber. You also are a friend, a confidant, a trusted advisor. You provide the community with an essential service, and it’s always a good idea to give back to the community when you have a chance.

Recently, the hairstylists and barbers from Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy gave haircuts at a local homeless shelter. In addition, they collected food, blankets, and personal care items to donate to the shelter. This event is just one way that Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy routinely gives back to the community that it serves. Here are a few reasons why we feel it’s important to give back:

Community Services Promote a Team Environment

When individuals who are part of an organization work together for the greater good, they feel more like a united team, rather than a bunch of separate people striving to meet personal goals. This sense of camaraderie and dedication extends beyond the immediate circumstances and stays with the group long after they have completed their community service project.

Giving Back Shows Your Dedication to Your Community

Professionals who want to succeed in a given neighborhood or city need to prove to their clientele that they aren’t just in it for the money. They need to showcase their commitment to the area around them and give back to the people who make the community what it is.

Donating Goods and Services Helps Individuals Feel More Connected with the People They Serve

Community service projects help get people out of their place of employment or their educational facility, and into the community they serve. It gives them a chance to meet new people, to learn their stories and to understand their unique perspective. It allows them to develop a personal connection that will stand the test of time.

Power of Giving Back Students

At Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy, we strive to train the next generation of hair stylists, barbers, skin care professionals, nail technicians and massage therapists. Our goal is not only to create highly-qualified professionals but also entrepreneurs who understand the value and importance of community. How To Become A Barber

Become A Barber

When a woman needs a fresh hair style or an updated color, she heads to the salon where she enjoys a luxurious experience with her favorite hairstylist. A man, however, is more likely to go to the local barber for a hair cut, a beard trim and a great conversation with the guys.

Career Change To Beauty or Barbering

Career Change

Never feel like you must stick with your current job for the long haul. If you feel as though you’re stuck in a rut, it’s probably high time for a career change. One of the most rewarding switches you can make is launching a new career in the beauty industry.

Reasons for a Career Switch

Each individual who abandons his or her current career path has personal reasons for doing so. Here are a few common signs that you may want to leave your job and start a career as a stylist or barber:

  • Low wages
  • High-stress workplace
  • Lack of career advancement opportunities
  • Low job satisfaction
  • Tired of 9 to 5 schedule
  • Long commute

It’s never too late to change careers—even if you’ve been at your job for more than 10 years. In fact, a prolonged tenure may give you the motivation to leave for a job in the beauty industry. If you’ve been in the same position for a decade and you’re not feeling challenged or rewarded, it’s time to move on. Your long-term goals may no longer sync with your current job.

Why Make the Switch to Beauty

A job as a stylist or barber offers many benefits that your current career may be lacking. A few key reasons include:

  • Stylists and barbers have more flexibility when it comes to scheduling. You can work part-time, full-time, weekends and evenings depending on your availability. Since stylists are in high demand, you can reduce your commute too since you’re likely to find plenty of local salons.
  • Get the respect and admiration you deserve. Clients will appreciate your hard work and reward you with referrals and monetary tips. As you build your network, you can earn a very good income.
  • Careers in the beauty industry leave plenty of room for growth. You may start out as a part-time stylist and move up to salon owner. You could also find opportunities to be a stylist for fashion shoots, movie sets or runway shows.
  • Finally, you can feel good about your job. Career satisfaction is a given within the beauty industry. Each client is different which allows for new challenges daily. You’ll feel good knowing you are using your talents to make someone beautiful.

Artistic Nails & Beauty can help you seamlessly switch gears and break into the beauty industry. Programs are available at our Lakeland and Tampa locations. Make an appointment with one of our admissions representatives for more information on our many offerings.

Top 5 Habits of a Successful Stylist

Top 5 Habits of a Successful Stylist

Successful Stylist

Successful stylists make it look easy, but rest assured, they are working hard to make it in the beauty industry. To not only succeed as a stylist, but also to remain successful, you’ll have to dedicate yourself to your craft. Follow these five tips to start thriving as a stylist.

Be a Style Icon

If you are a stylist, then you must look the part. Nothing is more off-putting than booking an appointment with a stylist who has no style. Keep hair on trend and dress professionally. Market yourself in person as well as on social media. Keep an active Instagram and Facebook page to showcase not only your personal style, but also share amazing looks you created in your salon chair.

Improve Customer Service

We all have bad days, but when you’re a stylist, you need to remain approachable 24/7. To succeed, your clients have to feel comfortable with you, not only as a stylist, but also as a person. If you project a winning personality, you will attract new clientele. Treating people with respect and not getting upset over constructive criticism will also get you ahead.

Keep Learning

The beauty industry is constantly evolving. Even seasoned professionals need to learn about the latest trends and techniques to stay competitive. Advanced education classes are a must throughout the duration of your career. These types of classes are also helpful if you’re looking for a niche. For instance, you could find courses to learn how to style wedding hair.

Give Back

Successful stylists know the importance of volunteering their services for charitable causes. Not only is it good to give back, but you’re also building up a positive reputation and getting your name out there. You could volunteer to do hair at a charity fashion show or host a cut-a-thon at your salon.

Educate Customers

Don’t simply cut a client’s hair and send them on their merry way. Suggest a hair regimen for them to follow between visits. Recommend they book their next appointment before they leave the salon. Nurture client relationships to encourage them to come back to you on a regular basis.

Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy offers comprehensive programs for aspiring stylists. With convenient campuses located in Tampa and Lakeland, students are able to complete courses on a part-time or full-time basis. Call the admissions department at (813) 654-4529 to learn more.

A Career as a Massage Therapist

A Career as a Massage Therapist

Massage Therapist Career

There is no better time to become a licensed massage therapist. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field of massage therapy will experience 24 percent growth over the next decade. One of the biggest draws of massage therapy is the flexibility found within the career. You can devote yourself as a full-time massage therapist or choose to only work part-time to earn extra income.

Getting Started

Each state will have different licensing requirements to practice as a massage therapist. On average, a comprehensive massage therapist program will require you to complete 600 hours of training. The program may last upwards of six months and can be typically scheduled around your other commitments. Besides learning massage therapy techniques to provide pain relief, improve circulation, and promote reduced stress levels, you’ll also learn about client communication, hygiene issues, and client needs analysis during your schooling.

Massage Therapy Job Settings

Massage therapists can be hired on a contractual or permanent basis depending on the job location. Potential settings for massage therapists to work include spas, hospitals, health clubs, hotels, cruise ships, chiropractic offices, and much more. A substantial percentage of massage therapists work as sole proprietors and manage their own practices. They may be in charge of their own scheduling, billing, and marketing.

All job settings have their pros and cons. For instance, working on a cruise ship may ensure a steady flow of clients, but you’re not likely to develop a long-term client base. An independent practice allows you to control the profits, but if you’re new in the field, you may struggle not working for a branded salon.

Getting Equipped

If you do decide to launch your own business after establishing a client base, massage therapy can be a lucrative career choice. You can work out of an office space or choose to keep operations mobile. Some massage therapists set up at a client’s home with a portable table. You would also need your own selections of oils, towels, and stones to use during sessions. Most importantly, you should look into professional liability insurance to keep your assets protected as your business grows.

The Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy has a massage therapy school program that can launch your brand new career. The academy has two convenient locations in Lakeland and Tampa and offers part-time and full-time course schedules. Contact Artistic Nails & Beauty today to get more information about massage therapy careers.
