6 Questions to Ask on a Beauty School Tour
When you’re getting ready to tour a beauty school, you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared! Get the most out of your tour by doing some research ahead of time, making a list of questions you’d like to ask, and by talking to instructors and admissions representatives. We’ve prepared some important questions to keep in mind so you can learn more on your tour!
What Qualifications Do I Need to Apply?
Qualifications depend on the state and can also be school specific! Some schools offer dual-enrollment for high school students, whereas others might require you to have graduated already. If you’re applying to Artistic Nails & Beauty Academy, here’s what qualifications you’ll need:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- If you are under 18 years of age, have parent/guardian approval
- Have proof of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Visit the school and have a personal interview with a school representative
What Schedule Options Are There?
We know how important it is to fit school into your busy schedule! Whether you’re working full-time, a parent, or have many passions, ask about scheduling options so you can decide if school will work for you. At Artistic, we offer both day and evening class times depending on the school location and program.
It’s also valuable to ask about program start dates! Some schools offer new enrollment dates about every month, like Artistic, whereas others may require you to plan ahead for a few months. Each program has a different length, so you’ll want to plan your start date for around when you’d like to be finished.
What Is the Cost of Tuition?
It’s important to get a break down of tuition costs so you can know exactly what you’re paying for. Depending on the school, some tuition may cover the cost of equipment and extracurricular trips, whereas other schools have additional fees on top of tuition. Meeting with an admissions representative during a tour will help you find out how much your fees should be.
Is Financial Aid* Available?
Every school is different, so you’ll want to find out if financial aid is available, and if so, what types! Here’s a few types of financial aid you might find for beauty school!
Federal Student Aid
The best place to start for federal student aid is by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Once you have submitted your FAFSA, this will help determine if you are eligible for the following federal student aid:
If you’re not sure if you qualify for federal student aid, take a look at eligibility requirements and speak with an admissions representative! They can help you understand if you may or may not qualify.
Scholarships
Scholarships can also be a great way to pay for beauty school! While many scholarships for beauty schools directly pertain to beauty, it’s always worth doing your research to see if there’s others you can apply for! Here’s a few resources we recommend on your scholarship search:
When you meet with an admissions representative, you can also ask about potential payment plans. Different schools all have varying ways to pay, and it’s worth finding out your options!
What Future Careers Could I Pursue in the Beauty Industry?
The beauty industry is continuously growing, with new careers being created every day! According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the predicted job growth by 2028 for barbers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists is 8%. This is higher than average for all occupations! If you study cosmetology, you could potentially work in a salon, own one, or pursue something outside of salon life. There are celebrity makeup artists, hair stylists for theater or television, beauty marketers, and beauty influencers.
Some schools offer additional programs in specific skills like special effects makeup or eyelash extensions. At Artistic, we offer a Massage Therapy program, which can be completed in as little as four to seven weeks. Programs like this can broaden your skill set and be a valuable resource when applying for jobs. Researching your potential school and asking about these kinds of programs can help prepare you for your future in the beauty industry.
